I wanted to love Logseq

I tried off and on for all of 2024 to use Logseq for my second brain, and I couldn’t make it work.

For the last month I made the full migration off Obsidian and onto Logseq, and it was a really smooth transition… at first. But ultimately, it all came down to one big decision for me. Mobile.

Logseqs mobile application just couldn’t cut it for me. It’s a very slimmed down version of the desktop application and missed a couple of key features for a note taking application that I take on the go.

I’ve been using Neovim (btw) for the last few years and one key feature it has is a grep search through the project. I’ve become pretty dependent on being able to search for text in a file to navigate around. The mobile application for Logseq does not have this and only allows you to search by file name.

The next piece that made an impact was the lack of plugins. I hadn’t realized how dependent I had become on several obsidian plugins that have become integral to my workflow. Obligator, and vimrc. Obligator allows me to setup recurring events in a cron like syntax. Vimrc support allows me to have my Neovim editing experience all within Obsidian. The special mention is the project Obsidian.nvim, which allows me to stay entirely in Neovim to modify my vault

Another nice bonus for Obsidian, I am writing this blog post entirely from my phone and I can easily sync it with my git repository to trigger the action to deploy this article. With Obsidian it is intended for long form writing content and Logseq is better for bullet style note taking.

The moment Logseq adds a grep style search for a repository of notes on the mobile device I would reconsider using it, but for the time being I am happily back to using Obsidian.
